Stylish At Dinner In NYC – Hollywood Life

Selena Gomez looked casual, yet glamorous, thanks to an incredible cat-eye makeup job that she displayed while heading to dinner in NYC. Oh, and her 70s flared jeans looked super stylish, too!

Selena Gomez can wear just about anything and look like absolute perfection. For example, she threw her style back to the 70s on Jan. 13, when she headed to dinner at Nobu in New York City. The 27-year-old singer donned a pair of flared, high-waisted jeans that she paired with an oversized, cozy creme sweater. Plus, she tucked that into the front of her jeans to show off her flat tummy, while pairing the look with cute brown boots and a matching purse. However, it was her makeup that upped the entire look’s glam factor!

Selena wore dramatic cat-eye makeup that looked absolutely stunning. Her makeup artist Hung Vanngo is an absolute master, and he really outdid himself this time. Selena had several TV appearances on Jan. 13 to promote her new album, Rare, which dropped on Jan. 10. She had just come from a taping of The Tonight Show, as she wore that same cat-eye, along with rosy pink lips to match the sleeveless pink mini-dress that she donned for her chat with Jimmy Fallon.

The “Lose You To Love Me” songstress had her hair partially pulled back into a high pony tail atop the back of her head. Meanwhile, long strands came down from the sides and back, curling up at the ends. While heading to Nobu, Selena was also wearing the same large crystal-drop earrings that she wore for her Tonight Show appearance. So all she did was a quick outfit change at 30 Rock and then headed off to dinner afterwards.

Then, Selena wore a gold palette of eye makeup when she hit up Live with Kelly and Ryan in the morning. It was perfect with the Gauge81 Resort 2020 Brick Red Dakota Tux Jacket and matching Raleigh Pants that she donned for the appearance. She looked all business, while her Tonight Show style was more feminine and fun. Hung even posted an Instagram pic of himself doing Selena’s makeup while backstage at Live. The singer gave the camera a fierce side-eye while he wrote, “Monday!😛 #Rare is out now!” in the caption.

Silicon Valley Reads celebrates women with events in Milpitas

In recognition of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the U.S., Silicon Valley Reads 2020 will celebrate the achievements of women with books and events focused on the theme “Women – Making It Happen.” A variety of events for adults, teens and children will take place in Milpitas.

Rhonda Shapiro, author of “Fierce Women: Wake Up Your Badass Self,” speaks on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Milpitas Library.  On Sunday, March 29, Claire L. Evans, author of “Broad Band: The Untold Story of the Women Who Made the Internet,” will speak at the India Community Center (ICC) at 1 p.m. and at the Milpitas Library at 3 p.m. The ICC event, co-sponsored by Indian Business and Professional Women, will include a panel discussion of iconic women of Indian origin who have risen and shone in the male-dominated high tech industry of Silicon Valley.

Three films will be shown at Milpitas Library with content related to the Silicon Valley Reads 2020 theme. “Iron Jawed Angels” inspired by the life of suffragette Alice Paul, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. “Hidden Figures,” which scored three Oscar nominations, will be shown on Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. The biographical legal drama “On the Basis of Sex” about the life and early cases of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, will be shown on Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m.

Zoe Nicholson will present a solo performance of “Tea with Alice and Me” at the library on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. The play focuses on Miss Alice Paul, the first person to organize a suffrage march down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.

A workshop on entrepreneurship for children in grades 3 and up called “Learning from the Lemonade Stand” will be offered Sunday, March 8, at 4 p.m. Brian Weisfeld, author of “The Startup Squad” book series, will provide information on how to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and life skills that will help each child pursue their passions and reach their full potential.

There were two more Minnie Mouses at Chicago West’s birthday party: Stormi Webster and True Thompson! The three cousins looked like triplets with their matching face paint, and it’s too cute.

Twinning! Triplet-ing? Chicago West‘s 2nd birthday party was on January 15, but her proud mama, Kim Kardashian, still can’t get over the cuteness. Kim, 38, shared new photos from the Disney-themed bash to Twitter on January 24, showing her youngest daughter hanging out with her cousins, Stormi Webster and True Thompson, both one (their birthdays are coming up). Chicago’s party was all about Minnie Mouse, and the little ones got their faces painted to look like their favorite character — pink bows, mouse ears, sparkles, eyelashes, and all. In the adorable pic, which you can see HERE, Chicago and Stormi are also wearing Minnie ears, like the kind you get at Disneyland, with polka dot bows on their heads. So cute!

Their outfits are insanely adorable, too. Chicago’s wearing a purple, glittery shirt and matching pants, while Stormi’s looking like a little skater in a black tee, black shorts, and white socks. True’s a little lady, dressed in a black shirt tucked into a denim skirt with tartan pleats. The pics rival the ones Stormi’s mom, Kylie Jenner, 21, shared to her Instagram Story on January 15. Auntie Kylie’s shots show Chicago wearing a white smock over her sparkly shirt while painting on an easel. She looks hard at work! Kylie also revealed a huge cake that looked like Minnie Mouse that said “CHI” on the bottom tier. Chicago’s name was on the wall behind the dessert table, featuring pink macarons and tea sets, in the Disney font.

A week before the birthday party, Kim posted a sweet video of Chicago choosing her birthday party theme. After saying that it was “Sainty’s” birthday (and getting corrected), Chicago told her she wanted a Minnie day instead of a Baby Shark fête. Kim was surely relieved about that.

Social media ‘buzz’ about miscarriages

Miscarriages and preterm birth (PTB) can be difficult experiences for expectant mothers, and many seek out positive support systems to help cope. As the world has become more digital, social media has become a support system for women who have experienced these events, according to new research published in Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology. The study aimed to better understand how Twitter users discuss the topics of miscarriage and PTB, analyze the trends and drivers, and describe the perceived emotional state of women who have experienced a miscarriage.

Methods
The authors obtained 291,443 Twitter posting on miscarriages and preterm births from January 2017 through December 2018. They applied Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) to identify major topics in the data. LDA models are used for uncovering latent topics within a large set of text. Words are assigned weights within particular topics given assumed probability distributions. The authors also used time series decomposition methods to assess temporal trends and identify major conversation drivers. In order to determine the emotional content of 7282 personal miscarriage disclosure tweets, the authors classified the tweets into six non-mutually exclusive categories: grief/sadness/depression, anger, relief, isolation, annoyance, and neutral. 

Results
Based on their findings, the authors discovered that the topics in their data fell into eight groups: celebrity disclosures, Michelle Obama’s disclosure, politics, healthcare, preterm births, loss and anxiety, flu vaccine and ectopic pregnancies. However, they noted that the political discussions around miscarriages were largely a result of a misunderstanding between abortions and miscarriages. Within miscarriage disclosures, grief and annoyance were the emotions most commonly expressed by users 50.6% (95%CI 49.1 – 52.2) and 16.2% (95% CI 15.2 to 17.3), respectively. The authors also noted that postings increased with celebrity disclosures; celebrities were considered strong and brave for publicly discussing the topic and Michelle Obama’s disclosure generated substantial response. These celebrity disclosures also led to increased disclosures by women who had similar experiences. For example, Obama’s disclosure resulted in a response approximately 3.6 times higher than the weekly average of postings in 2018. Postings also increased with pharmacists’ refusal of prescribed medications and with outrage over the high rate of preterm births in the United States.

Conclusions
Based on the results of their study, the authors believe that celebrity disclosures lead to the biggest increase in discussions of miscarriage on social media. They also believe that the results provide an insight of current public perceptions of miscarriage and illustrate how individuals use Twitter to share information and/or seek support. A better understanding of how individuals who have experienced miscarriage use social media may be informative for clinicians who provide miscarriage care and treatment.
